SRT does what no soft-tissue therapy can: relieve pressure deep inside the joints. In addition to the joints, SRT targets any areas that inhibits structural mobility, including the: muscles, ligaments, tendons, scar tissue, and fascia. By integrating Core Muscle Therapy, with isolated, assisted stretching, joint mobilization and strength and stability exercises, SRT is a complete, total body therapy system.
SRT is not chiropractic or massage or physical therapy. It is our proprietary therapy system that was developed over a 10 year period.
History of SRTWhen the
muscles are tight, it causes the joints to track improperly. And, when
the joints articulate wrongly, they become irritated. This
irritation then affects the muscles and the vicious cycle continues.
Because joints play a vital role in muscle health, and visa versa, Derek J. Hill, the founder of SRT, knew that if he could find a way to work deep within the joints, in addition to working the muscles, he could provide long-lasting relief for his clients.
After years of experimentation, Derek found a way of "gapping" the joints through isolated stretches. Doing so, while releasing the tension of the ligaments and tendons with Core Muscle Therapy, he further found that he could relieve pressure on the joints and the muscles, simultaneously. This joint and muscle therapy became known as SRT, or Structural Release Therapy, for its ability to release pressure on the skeletal structure.
What does SRT help?Since SRT incorporates Core Muscle Therapy, SRT alleviates everything that Core Muscle Therapy can, PLUS:
- Postural Problems
- Structural Misalignments
- Joint Compression
- Nerve Compression
- Restless Leg Syndrome
- Inflexibility
- Injury Rehabilitation
- Joint Strengthening and Stability
- Increased Athletic Performance
SRT and ChiropracticAs each joint is "released," it begins to shift into its proper position. Although many joints will align themselves naturally, some may have more difficulty. For this reason, chiropractic works great in conjunction with SRT.
SRT and Fitness TrainingAlthough Core Clinic provides basic strength and stability exercises to help with joint instability, or hyper-mobility, we encourage our clients to use personal trainers and fitness coaches for a more in-depth workout regimen.
What to Expect During a Typical Session
Because it is a stretch-based therapy, it is ideal to wear something comfortable. The therapist will begin by taking the client through various ranges-of-motion to assess how each joint is moving in conjunction with the other. After the problem areas are identified, focused stretches and soft-tissue manipulative techniques are used to release the pressure on the joints associated with those problem areas. This process continues throughout the session until all the joints are moving properly, any scar-tissue found is broken up, and any tension identified in the muscles, tendons and ligaments is loosened.
